Mayor Teague issues statement after fatal Iowa City police shooting

Iowa City Mayor Bruce Teague released a statement Wednesday following a fatal officer-involved shooting that happened the night before. The shooting happened around 5:36 p.m.

Tuesday in the 600 block of Southgate Avenue.

Iowa City police responded to a report of a person armed with a knife threatening others, according to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

Officers saw the person with the knife making threatening statements and gestures. Two uniformed Iowa City police officers fired their guns at the armed person.
