2 arrested in kratom bust at ‘PuffCity’ in Wallingford, Connecticut

Two people were arrested for selling illegal drugs at a smoke shop in Wallingford, police said.
Arrest and charges
According to Wallingford police, the men are employees at the PuffCity Smoke Shop on North Colony Road.
Police said they executed a search and seizure warrant on Sept. 11 at the business and an associated vehicle.
Police said patrol officers started looking into the business in July after someone suffered a severe adverse reaction to a product bought from PuffCity.
The product was initially believed to be a cannabis gummy.
Charges and court proceedings
Oguzhan Goktas, 51, of Branford, and Baris Alanc, 27, of Wallingford, were charged with illegal possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.
The warrant was the result of a two-month-long investigation into drug sales.
However, police said their investigation revealed that it contained the kratom alkaloids hydroxymitragynine and hydroxymitragynine pseudoindoxyl, which are classified controlled substances in Connecticut.
