Armed robbery suspect arrested after hourslong SWAT standoff in northeast Fresno, California

An armed robbery suspect was taken into custody Tuesday night after an hourslong standoff with Fresno police and SWAT officers at a northeast Fresno home.

Arrest and charges

Gettysburg Ave., near First Street. Police said the man entered the store, showed a gun and stole items before leaving in a car on Gettysburg Avenue.

Undercover officers who were already in the area began searching nearby neighborhoods and spotted a car matching the description in the backyard of a home along East Gettysburg Avenue.

Officers also saw a man matching the suspect's description in the backyard.

Police surrounded the home and used a drone to track the suspect as he went inside.

Negotiators spent several hours trying to make contact with him, but police said they were unsuccessful.

Because the robbery involved a gun, SWAT was called to the scene and took over the operation.

The Fresno Police Department said the investigation began around 11:10 a.m. with a reported armed robbery at the AutoZone at 3102 E.
