Ocala mother, daughter recovering after shooting followed altercation

An Ocala mother and her 5-year-old daughter are expected to recover after being shot Monday night, following an altercation that happened about an hour earlier, police said.

Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken said officers were called to the Sutton apartment complex around 8 p.m.

Monday for an altercation that started with a group of kids and then included adults.

Balken said a family left the scene and went to a nearby apartment complex. The family eventually left that area and was followed on the way home.
