Attempted murder charge filed after shooting outside Amsterdam bar, police say

A 44-year-old Amsterdam man has been charged with attempted murder and other felonies after a shooting outside a bar in Amsterdam, police said.
Christopher Torres, 44-year-old from Amsterdam, was arrested on North Street in Gloversville and charged with attempted murder in the second degree; assault in the first degree; and criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
On Sept. 12, 2026, Amsterdam Police Department patrol officers responded to a report of a man with a gunshot wound on Cornell Street.
Officers found the victim and began giving aid. The Amsterdam Fire Department also responded and continued treating the victim, who was later transported to Albany Medical Center.
