Alexander Zverev Beats Ben Shelton to Win 2026 US Open Men’s Title

Alexander Zverev has won the 2026 U.S. Open men’s singles championship, defeating American Ben Shelton 6-3, 7-6(2), 5-7, 6-2 in the final at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

The victory gives Zverev his second Grand Slam title of the season after winning the French Open earlier this year.

Shelton briefly revived American hopes by taking the third set, but Zverev regained control in the fourth and closed out the match to secure the championship.

The defeat means the drought for an American man winning a Grand Slam singles title will continue into a 24th year. Andy Roddick remains the last American man to win a major, having captured the U.S. Open in 2003.

Shelton still made history by becoming the first Black American man to reach a U.S. Open final since Arthur Ashe in 1972.

Zverev also earned the tournament’s record $5.5 million champion’s prize with the victory.
