Two Pune Cops Stabbed While Trying to Break Up Drunken Brawl in Shivajinagar

Pune: Two beat marshals on night patrol in Pune’s Shivajinagar were attacked with knives by a group of drunken men early Sunday morning, in an assault that has left the local police force shaken and reignited concerns about officer safety on the city’s streets.

The attack took place around 2:30 AM near the Central Mall junction, when beat marshals Suraj Pawar and Rutvik Wagh responded to reports of seven to eight intoxicated men causing a ruckus in the area.

The two officers rushed to the spot and tried to calm the group down but instead of backing off, two men in the crowd, later identified as Om Marane and Sunil Borkar, pulled out knives and turned on the police.

A scuffle broke out almost immediately. Pawar’s jacket was torn in the struggle, and he was stabbed in the abdomen.
