Tom Tiffany and pilot safe after plane loss of power — Emergency landing on Lake Wausau

WAUSAU, Wis. (WJFW) — Tom Tiffany, the Republican candidate for Governor of Wisconsin, and the pilot of his plane suffered minor injuries in an emergency landing on Lake Wausau Saturday night.

Fire response and evacuations

Tom Tiffany was traveling back from the La Crosse County Lincoln Day Dinner when the plane he was traveling on lost power and had to make an emergency landing on Lake Wausau.

In a social media post, Tiffany said the plane lost power approaching Wausau Downtown Airport and the pilot made an emergency water landing on Lake Wausau.

Tiffany's post said, as the plane began to submerge, passengers exited the aircraft and swam to a shallow water and waited for emergency responders who reached them by boat.

Tiffany expressed his gratitude to first responders in the post:

"I want to express my deepest gratitude to the pilot, the Wausau Fire Department, and all of the first responders who came to our aid so quickly.

They got us safely off the water and transported us to Aspirus Wausau Hospital, where we received excellent care.

Thankfully, both the pilot and I sustained only minor injuries."
