Childress declares local state of disaster after citywide boil water notice

The City of Childress has declared a local state of disaster after low disinfectant residuals led to a citywide boil water notice.
According to the proclamation, extreme heat, high ground temperatures and ongoing drought conditions caused disinfectants in the water system to evaporate, resulting in low disinfectant residuals.
The city says the conditions led to the citywide boil water notice.
The declaration states extraordinary measures are necessary to protect people and property and activates the City of Childress emergency management plan.
