Atmore parents arrested after 14-month-old overdoses on illegal narcotic, police say
An Atmore couple was arrested Thursday after their 14-month-old child ingested an illegal narcotic and suffered an opioid-like overdose, according to the Atmore Police Department.
Arrest and charges
Officers initially responded to a report regarding the toddler on Aug. 13, when the child began exhibiting symptoms consistent with an opioid overdose, police said.
The child received emergency medical treatment and is currently doing well, authorities said.
Investigators filed criminal charges after executing a search warrant at the family’s residence.
Police noted that while marijuana was recovered at the home, investigators do not believe it was the substance the child ingested.
Charges and court proceedings
Jonah Osborne and Amber Osborne were taken into custody following an investigation by the department’s Criminal Investigations Division.
Both parents face charges of chemical endangerment of a child, second-degree possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.
