BREAKING: USGS Registers M4.1 Seismic Event in Lebanon After Israeli Blasts

The U.S. Geological Survey registered a magnitude 4.1 seismic event in southern Lebanon following powerful explosions linked to Israel’s destruction of underground Hezbollah infrastructure in the Ali al-Taher area.

The blasts shook large parts of southern Lebanon, with residents reporting strong ground movement and loud explosions across Nabatieh and surrounding areas.

Massive blast in Ali al-Taher

The Israeli military said it destroyed an underground Hezbollah complex extending for more than two kilometers and containing command facilities, weapons storage sites and other military infrastructure.

The force of the demolition generated strong ground waves that were detected by seismic monitoring systems.

Seismic reading does not necessarily mean a natural earthquake

The timing of the USGS reading suggests the recorded event may have been caused by the powerful explosions rather than natural tectonic activity.

Seismic networks can detect large explosions, quarry blasts and other non-earthquake events when they generate sufficiently strong ground vibrations.
