Nashville International Airport Set to Become Dolly Parton International Airport
Nashville International Airport is set to be renamed Dolly Parton International Airport, as Tennessee moves to honor the late country music legend with one of the state’s most prominent landmarks.
The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority is scheduled to vote Friday on a resolution supporting the name change, with approval widely expected.
Nashville backs Dolly Parton airport name
Nashville’s Metropolitan Council previously adopted a resolution requesting that the airport authority rename Nashville International Airport in Parton’s honor.
Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee and Nashville airport officials had also announced their intention to name the airport after the singer, songwriter and philanthropist.
The proposal gained significant public support following Parton’s death, including an online petition signed by more than 175,000 people.
BNA airport code expected to remain
Despite the proposed new name, the airport’s familiar BNA code is expected to remain unchanged.
The renaming would recognize Parton’s enormous influence on Tennessee, Nashville’s music industry and her decades of philanthropic work.
Once formally approved, Nashville International Airport would become Dolly Parton International Airport, giving visitors arriving in Music City a new tribute to one of Tennessee’s most recognizable figures.
