Report Of Person With Weapon Puts Ramapo College, New Jersey On Lockdown: Officials

Report Person Weapon

Ramapo College remained on lockdown Thursday evening, Sept. 10, as police searched multiple buildings following a report of a person with a weapon, authorities said.

School response and safety measures

Mahwah police responded to the college around 6 p.m., and an investigation determined the report was unfounded, the department said.

"The campus was placed on lockdown and remains that way while officers search multiple buildings on campus out of an abundance of caution," police said.

As police searched the campus, students and staff sheltered inside locked classrooms.

One parent who said he was inside a darkened, locked classroom with his daughter posted on X that about 15 other students and a teacher were with them.

“With my daughter in a darkened and locked classroom at Ramapo College in NJ.

We are on lock down because there MAY be an armed person on campus. Mahwah Police, including SWAT teams are roaming the halls. No shots heard.

15 other students and a teacher in room. First for me!” Click here to follow Daily Voice and receive free news updates.
