No Injuries Reported Following Train Derailment Near Mitchell, Nebraska

Mitchell, NE (RELEASE) September 10th, 2026 — On Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 12:11pm, a Scotts Bluff County Deputy witnessed a train derailment in Mitchell NE.

An eastbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe coal train suffered a partial derailment, with four cars overturned and several others off the tracks.

The Mitchell Police Chief, other Deputies, and the Mitchell Fire Department were on scene within minutes. A Deputy used a fire extinguisher to put out a small fire.

There are no injuries and no danger to the public.
