Journalist and dissident Margarita Dovgan has died

On September 8, news broke of the death of Margarita Dovgan, a journalist, civil society activist, and dissident.

She died at the age of 95, according to her daughter, Kateryna Dovgan. Margarita Dovgan was born on September 11, 1930, in Tashkent.

Her family had been forced to move there following Stalin’s repressions.

In 1928, her grandfather, a customs officer on the border with Poland, was arrested by Soviet authorities as an “enemy of the people” and sent to a political prison camp in Central Asia.
