Miami Amazon Cargo Plane Crash: Five Victims Identified
MIAMI, Florida — Authorities have identified the five people killed when an Amazon cargo plane overran a runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, struck vehicles and caught fire.
Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz released their names during a news conference Tuesday. All five victims were occupants of vehicles struck during the crash, according to National Transportation Safety Board Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy.
Names of the Five Victims
Those killed were:
- Rolando Aleman Leon, 55
- Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, 53
- Julio C. Pineda, 75
- Carlos Acosta Fajardo, 53
- Javierkys Reyes Quevedo, 47
Five other people were injured. Three remained hospitalized Tuesday, including two in critical condition. The aircraft’s two pilots were treated and released, the sheriff said.
Flight Arrived From Puerto Rico
Amazon Air Flight 7598 was arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico, when the crash occurred. It was the aircraft’s third flight of the day.
Homendy said the jet traveled at least 1,300 feet beyond the paved runway surface and struck multiple vehicles, including a Ford Econoline van carrying passengers.
The aircraft breached the airport perimeter and hit a Toyota Corolla Cross before continuing into grass and another fence bordering an area where Tesla robotaxis were stationed.
Investigators Examine the Crash
The NTSB is investigating the circumstances of the runway overrun. Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives are also investigating the deaths, Cordero-Stutz said.
