Southwest Wisconsin measles outbreak continues to grow
GRANT, Iowa — MADISON, Wis. (WXOW) — A measles outbreak in three southwest Wisconsin counties has reached 151 confirmed cases as of Sep. 8.
Cases and health response
Grant, Iowa and Lafayette counties have reported 151 confirmed cases and six probable cases, according to the state Department of Health Services.
The total represents nearly all of Wisconsin's 159 measles cases reported so far in 2026.
Confirmed measles cases are those with symptoms consistent with measles that have been laboratory confirmed or have a direct link to a confirmed case by location and time.
Probable cases have symptoms consistent with measles but have not been laboratory confirmed or directly linked to a confirmed case.
DHS, in coordination with Grant County Health Department, Iowa County Health Department and Lafayette County Health Department, are working to identify and notify people who may have been exposed to the measles virus.
Health investigation
The ongoing investigation indicates measles is spreading locally.
At this time, the investigation has not identified locations in public settings for which a full list of exposed people cannot be obtained.
