Cherokee County, Alabama Man Dies Following Farm Equipment Accident

Posted by Staff Reports | Sep 8, 2026 | Alabama News, Cherokee News | 0 | A Cherokee County man was killed Sunday night after a farm equipment accident in the McCord’s Crossroads community, according to the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office.
Official response and confirmed impact
The incident came to light around 8:30 p.m.
Sunday when the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office received a report that Kerr had not returned home.
Family members told authorities he had been operating a skid steer while bushhogging earlier in the day.
A search effort was quickly organized, involving deputies, firefighters, emergency management personnel, rescue workers, family members, and local residents.
Search teams used ATVs, drones, and four-wheel-drive vehicles to look for Kerr.
During the search, responders located an overturned skid steer submerged in a body of water.
Emergency crews immediately began efforts to reach the operator while additional personnel, including Floyd EMS, responded to the scene. Despite rescue efforts, Kerr was found deceased.
