Shooting

One person died and multiple others were injured in a shooting at a house party in Taunton, according to local authorities.

Victims and police response

Taunton police responded to a home on Weir Street, near its intersection with Sumner Street, at about 12:37 a.m. Sunday.

Officials had received multiple 911 calls about a shooting at a house party, with witnesses describing how more than one victim had been hit, according to a statement from the Taunton Police Department.

First responders found multiple gunshot victims at the home, and they were transported to local hospitals.

Officials learned that other victims may have left the scene and sought out medical treatment on their own, Taunton police said in a public statement a few hours after the shooting.

Police said at the time that the exact number of victims and the nature of their injuries was under investigation.

At the time, there were no fatalities. But one victim was pronounced dead later on Sunday, The Boston Globe reported.

He was identified as Zirovick Depina, a 22-year-old Brockton resident.
