Two Shot Near West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn; Suspect Arrested and Gun Recovered

Two people were wounded in separate shootings Monday afternoon near the West Indian American Day Parade festivities in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York, police said.

Both victims—a man and a woman—are expected to survive. One suspect was taken into custody, while police continued searching for two others.

Man Shot Near Nostrand Avenue

The first shooting occurred near Nostrand Avenue and St. John’s Place.

Police said a man was shot at the location. A suspect was taken into custody, and officers recovered a firearm during their response.

Authorities have not disclosed what led to the shooting or announced charges against the person detained.

Woman Shot Near Eastern Parkway

A woman was later shot near Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue, close to the parade route.

Police said two suspects fled toward Albany Avenue following the gunfire. No arrests have been announced in connection with the second shooting.

Violence Near Carnival Festivities

The shootings occurred as large crowds gathered in Crown Heights for the annual celebration of Caribbean culture.

Earlier Monday, four men were injured in a separate stabbing near Carroll Street and Utica Avenue during the J’Ouvert festivities. All four were reported in stable condition.

Police investigations into the separate incidents remain underway.
