One Person Shot at West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn, New York

A person was shot Monday evening along the route of the West Indian American Day Parade in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City.

The shooting occurred on Eastern Parkway near the Crown Heights–Utica Avenue subway station, where thousands of people had gathered for the annual Caribbean celebration.

Victim Reportedly Shot in Leg

Emergency medical personnel responded after receiving reports that one person had been shot in the leg.

The victim’s condition has not been officially released. Police have not announced an arrest or disclosed what led to the shooting.

Thousands of NYPD officers had been assigned to the parade, which was scheduled to end at 5:30 p.m. under strengthened security measures.

Earlier Monday, four men were stabbed near Carroll Street and Utica Avenue during separate violence connected to the pre-parade J’Ouvert festivities. One of those victims was reported in critical condition.

The shooting remains under investigation.
