UTAH TRANSIT AUTHORITY, Utah — SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Sept. 5, 2026 () — More details have been released after a stabbing Friday on the TRAX blue line in Salt Lake City.

Stabbing Details

An arrest document for Samuel Mesquita, 25, says a Utah Transit Authority Police officer was summoned to a platform at 650 S.

Main, and boarded the train to see two men on the floor, actively fighting. “Bystanders were attempting to subdue the two males,” Mesquita’s arrest document says.

“Upon further investigation it was determined that the victim identified as R.S. had been stabbed and cut with a folding pocketknife during the fight.” The suspect, Mesquita, was taken to the police station, and “told investigators that he was agitated with his girlfriend and was talking to himself about the situation while on the train.
