Acid leaks onto I-83 after hazmat incident in York County, Pennsylvania

According to Emergency Management's Ted Czech, the incident occurred around 7:16 p.m. Friday on I-83 southbound at mile marker 32, in Newberrytown.

Czech said the tractor-trailer caught on fire and crews were able to put that fire out.

Hazmat was called to the scene because the vehicle was transporting phosphoric acid, which leaked onto the roadway.

I-83 southbound and northbound was closed from Exit 28 to Exit 32, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.

State police say the closure was due to "the nature of the liquid." PennDOT says the roadway was expected to reopen at 8 a.m. Saturday.
