Grand Canyon Flash Flood Death Toll Rises to 2 as 14 Remain Missing in Arizona

GRAND CANYON, Arizona — The death toll from catastrophic flash flooding at Grand Canyon National Park has risen to two, while approximately 14 people remain missing or unaccounted for as search operations continue.

The National Park Service confirmed Monday that crews recovered a second body from the flood-affected area. Officials have not released the identity of the second victim.

Second Body Recovered

The first confirmed victim was a 46-year-old man whose body was recovered near Crystal Rapids along the Colorado River.

More than 60 people have been evacuated from areas around Phantom Ranch and the lower North Kaibab Trail since powerful floodwaters swept through the canyon Saturday.

Search Continues for Missing People

The flooding destroyed footbridges, damaged trails and severely affected the Transcanyon Waterline, which supplies water to parts of the national park.

Authorities are continuing to search for approximately 14 people who may have been in the affected Bright Angel Creek corridor when the flooding struck.

Additional thunderstorms remain possible in the region, potentially complicating search and recovery operations.
