Nine officers placed on leave after deadly officer-involved shooting in Gary, Indiana

GARY, Indiana — GARY, Ind. (WNDU) – Nine police officers have been placed on administrative leave after Indiana State Police said a suspect was shot and killed in an officer-involved shooting in Gary.

Police said it happened just before 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, near the metro station at Broadway and 4th Avenue.

Investigators said Gary Police and Lake County Sheriff’s officers responded to a report of an armed security officer exhibiting unusual and erratic behavior.

Police said officers attempted to de-escalate the situation.
