Strong Thunderstorms With 50 MPH Winds Target Four Florida Counties

The National Weather Service issued a fresh alert for strong thunderstorms affecting parts of Hardee, Manatee, DeSoto and Sarasota counties in Florida.
Radar detected a line of storms extending from south of Wauchula toward areas east of Myakka City and Myakka River State Park. The storms were moving northwest at approximately 10 mph.
Wind gusts could reach 50 mph, potentially knocking down tree limbs and blowing around unsecured objects. Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning was also reported.
Wauchula, Myakka City, Zolfo Springs, Ona, Limestone and surrounding communities could be affected. Residents were advised to seek shelter inside a sturdy building or vehicle.
The alert remains in effect until 4:00 p.m. EDT.
