Man killed in Portland, Maine police shooting

PORTLAND, Maine — A man was shot and killed by Portland police Thursday night after authorities said he threatened workers with a gun, stole vehicles at gunpoint and led officers on a pursuit that ended at the Casco Bay Lines terminal.

Portland police identified the man as 37-year-old Jacob Hastings.

Police said the incident began around 9:32 p.m., when they received reports of gunfire near Spring and Oak streets. Officers responded but did not find anyone.

A short time later, dispatchers received a report of a shirtless man armed with a gun threatening employees at Nova Seafood on Commercial Street, according to police.
