DHL Cargo Plane Catches Fire During Emergency Landing at LAX
A DHL Boeing 737-800 cargo plane caught fire while making an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday night, sending flames shooting from beneath the aircraft.
The plane, operated by Kalitta Charters II as Flight KII1814, had arrived at LAX from Phoenix shortly before 11 p.m.
Flames Erupt Beneath DHL Plane
Video of the landing showed flames coming from the aircraft’s left main landing gear moments after it touched down.
Air traffic control recordings captured the pilot reporting that the brakes had locked, apparently causing one or more tires to catch fire.
LAX Fire Crews Respond
Airport rescue crews quickly reached the aircraft and extinguished the fire. Four rear tires appeared to have sustained severe damage.
One runway was temporarily closed while emergency crews secured the plane and inspected the landing area.
No Injuries Reported
No injuries were immediately reported, and the aircraft landed safely despite the fire.
The exact cause of the brake problem and tire fire remains under investigation.
