USS Theodore Roosevelt Prepares for Extended Middle East Deployment

The U.S. aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt is preparing for a Middle East deployment expected to last more than seven months as the Navy maintains a strong military presence in the region.

Deployment Expected in the Coming Weeks

The USS Theodore Roosevelt, its escort ships and the embarked Carrier Air Wing 11 are expected to depart San Diego in the coming weeks and move into the U.S. Central Command area.

The carrier strike group is expected to replace the Japan-based USS George Washington, which recently entered the U.S. Fifth Fleet’s area of operations.

Crew Told to Prepare for Eight Months

Families of sailors assigned to the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group are already preparing for their loved ones to remain away from home for more than seven months.

The carrier’s commanding officer has reportedly advised the crew to plan for a deployment lasting approximately eight months.

U.S. Maintains Carrier Presence in Arabian Sea

The deployment comes as the United States continues military operations in the region and maintains an aircraft carrier presence in the Arabian Sea.

The Navy has established a logistics network capable of supporting two carrier strike groups in the area, including the delivery of fuel, equipment and replacement parts at sea.

U.S. Carrier Deployments Growing Longer

American aircraft carrier deployments have averaged about eight and a half months in recent years, exceeding the Navy’s preferred seven-month schedule.

The USS Gerald R. Ford recently completed a record 326-day deployment, the longest by a U.S. aircraft carrier since the Cold War, while the USS Abraham Lincoln approached 300 days at sea.
