Severe Thunderstorms and Flash Flooding Threaten Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland Thursday

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania — Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms and flash flooding are possible across parts of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland on Thursday afternoon and evening.
The greatest severe-weather threat is expected along and northwest of the Interstate 95 corridor, including Philadelphia, Reading, Allentown, Wilmington and surrounding communities.
Damaging Winds Are Main Threat
The National Weather Service said damaging wind gusts will be the primary hazard, although a brief tornado cannot be ruled out.
The highest risk period will be from approximately 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. Thursday, August 27.
Flash Flooding Possible
Heavy rainfall could cause localized flash flooding, particularly in areas affected by repeated thunderstorms.
Not every community will experience storms, but residents should monitor weather alerts and move indoors if threatening weather approaches. Drivers should never attempt to cross flooded roads.
