Rabid Coyote Killed in Cheltenham Township, Pennsylvania

CHELTENHAM TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania — Police are warning residents after a coyote recently killed by officers tested positive for rabies.

The aggressive coyote had been reported in Wyncote near Curtis Park, Hopeland Road, Washington Lane and Rock Creek Drive on August 21. It reportedly attacked a person walking a dog before officers located and killed it.

Residents and Pet Owners Warned

Anyone who recently came into contact with a coyote should promptly seek medical care. Pet owners should contact a veterinarian, especially if their animals are not current on rabies vaccinations.

Rabies can spread through an infected animal’s saliva, including through bites and scratches.

Residents who see wildlife behaving unusually or aggressively should keep their distance and call 911.
