Fromm and Oma's Pride Dog Food Recall

FOODS OF MEQUON, Wisconsin — Dog owners should check their pet food supplies after Fromm Family Foods and Oma's Pride recalled specific dog food products over separate contamination concerns, according to the latest U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notices.

Cases and health response

The Fromm recall, announced Aug. 21, involves 5,825 cases of two canned dog food products that may contain metal.

A separate Oma's Pride recall involves 639 bags of frozen raw dog food that tested positive for Salmonella.

The FDA's animal recall database continues to list both recalls as active as of Aug. 26.

The two recalls are unrelated, but both require pet owners to check product identifiers rather than assuming every product from either brand is affected.

Fromm Family Foods of Mequon, Wisconsin, recalled 3,852 cases of Turkey Pâté Wet Dog Food and 1,973 cases of Diner Classics Milo's Meatloaf Pâté Wet Dog Food because of potential metal contamination.

The products were distributed through pet stores and online outlets in the United States and Canada.

Health investigation

The FDA says metal, particularly sharp pieces, could cause choking or injuries to a dog's mouth or gastrointestinal tract.
