Mon County Schools delays afternoon drop-offs due to report of shots fired, no danger determined

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A report of shots fired in the Cheat Lake area prompted the delay of afternoon drop-offs for Monongalia County public school students.

The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department announced via press release that the report was received at around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, with deputies later dispatched to Marina Drive, off Mont Chateau Road in Cheat Lake.

The decision to delay drop-offs was made in coordination with the Monongalia County Board of Education in order to minimize traffic and ensure public safety.

According to the release, deputies determined upon arriving on scene that the individual who allegedly discharged the weapon fired into the surrounding wooded area and not toward any person.
