Possible Tornado Tracks Near Atlantic and Cedar Island, North Carolina
ATLANTIC, N.C. — A potentially significant rotating storm tracked through northeastern Carteret County near Atlantic and Cedar Island late Monday afternoon, prompting a Tornado Warning from the National Weather Service.
The warning was issued at approximately 4:34 p.m. EDT after radar detected rotation near Atlantic, close to Cedar Island, with the storm moving east at about 15 mph.
Strong Rotation Near Cedar Island
Radar imagery showed a tightly organized circulation as the storm moved across a largely rural area near the Cedar Island National Wildlife Refuge.
At 4:44 p.m., the National Weather Service continued to track the tornadic storm near Atlantic and Cedar Island, moving east at about 10 mph.
The Tornado Warning remained in effect until 5:00 p.m. EDT.
The National Weather Service classified the tornado threat as radar indicated; a tornado on the ground had not been officially confirmed at the time of the latest warning.
