Colwash Fire Surges Past 35,000 Acres as Level 3 Evacuations Continue in Yakima County, Washington

MABTON, Wash. — The Colwash Fire has surged to more than 35,000 acres with 0% containment, forcing Level 3 “GO NOW” and Level 2 evacuation orders across parts of Yakima County as the fast-moving wildfire continues burning near Mabton.

The fire began Saturday morning and expanded dramatically through Sunday, threatening homes and infrastructure in south-central Washington.

Level 3 Evacuations

Level 3 evacuations remain in effect for areas south of Highway 22 and west of Glade Road toward the Klickitat County line.

Level 2 evacuation warnings cover areas on the north side of Highway 22, while additional communities around Mabton remain under lower-level evacuation alerts.

Mandatory evacuations are also in effect in portions of neighboring Benton County.

Home and Other Structures Lost

Authorities reported that one home and two additional structures have been destroyed by the Colwash Fire. No injuries have been reported.

A Red Cross evacuation shelter has been established at Prosser High School as firefighters continue working to slow the fire’s spread.
