Severe Storms Intensify Near Great Falls, Montana, With 80 MPH Winds as Threat Spreads Into Western South Dakota

GREAT FALLS, Mont. — Severe thunderstorms are intensifying across central Montana and western South Dakota Sunday afternoon, with storms capable of producing wind gusts up to 80 mph and large hail.

The Storm Prediction Center said storms developing across central Montana could produce hail around 1 to 1.75 inches in diameter before organizing into clusters capable of 60 to 80 mph winds.

Large Hail Threat in Western South Dakota

Additional thunderstorms are developing around the Black Hills and western South Dakota, where conditions support organized severe storms and possible supercells.

Hail could reach 2 inches in diameter, with severe wind gusts potentially reaching 75 to 80 mph in the strongest storms.

Severe thunderstorm watches and warnings may be issued as storms strengthen and move east through the afternoon and evening.
