GOWER, Missouri — A police pursuit of a subject Saturday in Gower, Missouri, ended with an explosion inside the subject's vehicle.The Clinton County Sheriff's Office said in a press release deputies were dispatched for a possible suicidal subject around 11:37 a.m.

The sheriff's office was told the subject had a gun and explosive devices and had threatened "suicide by cop."The sheriff's office got additional information on the person's location around 12:19 p.m.

Officers went to a Gower residence and found the subject with a backpack.The subject ignored commands from police and left the residence in a vehicle — a pursuit then started.While driving toward and passing deputies, the driver held a "suspected explosive device" out of the vehicle's window, per a press release.After the pursuit entered the driveway of a Gower restaurant and continuing into a field behind it, the sheriff's office reported an explosion around 12:31 p.m.The sheriff's office said shrapnel hit the deputies' vehicles, but no law enforcement was injured.Several surrounding residences were cleared as the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department Bomb Squad worked the scene.Multiple area agencies are assisting with the incident.The sheriff's office said it will release additional information as it becomes available.—If you have any information about a crime, you may contact your local police department directly.
