Severe Thunderstorm Watch Covers New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia Until 9 PM

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — A new Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect across portions of New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia until 9 p.m. EDT Saturday, with more than 11 million people potentially affected.
Strong thunderstorms developing across the region could produce damaging wind gusts up to 65 mph and hail approaching 1 inch in diameter.
Damaging Winds and Hail Possible
The primary threat from the storms is damaging straight-line winds capable of bringing down trees and power lines and causing scattered property damage.
Large hail is also possible with the strongest storms.
Storms Through Saturday Evening
Thunderstorms are expected to continue developing and moving across portions of the four-state region through the afternoon and evening.
Residents in the watch area should remain alert for individual Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and move indoors when storms approach.
