Large, Extremely Dangerous Tornado Confirmed Over Dover, Delaware

DOVER, Del. — A large and extremely dangerous tornado was confirmed over Dover at 6:11 p.m. EDT Thursday, moving east at 35 mph. The tornado warning remains in effect for central Kent County until 6:45 p.m.

Particularly dangerous situation

The tornado was confirmed by radar and classified as a damaging tornado with a considerable damage threat. Officials described the emergency as a particularly dangerous and life-threatening situation.

Considerable damage to homes, businesses and vehicles is possible. Mobile homes may be destroyed, while flying debris could be deadly to anyone without shelter.

Communities in the path

The warning includes Dover, Camden, Cheswold, Rodney Village, Little Creek, Leipsic, Wyoming, Rising Sun-Lebanon, Rising Sun, Hazlettville, Dover Base Housing, Dover Speedway, Kent Acres and Highland Acres.

Take cover immediately

Residents must move immediately to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and stay away from windows.

Anyone outdoors, inside a mobile home or traveling in a vehicle should reach the nearest substantial shelter without waiting to see or hear the tornado.
