Tornado Warning Issued for Kenton, Delaware, and Sudlersville–Templeville, Maryland, Until 6:15 PM EDT

KENTON, Del. — A tornado warning has been issued for Kenton, Delaware, and Sudlersville, Templeville and surrounding communities in Maryland until 6:15 p.m. EDT Thursday.

The warning covers northwestern Kent County in central Delaware and northeastern Queen Anne’s County in Maryland.

Storms moving east at 35 mph

At 5:39 p.m., severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes and extensive straight-line wind damage were located over Church Hill, approximately 10 miles northeast of Centreville.

The storms were moving east at 35 mph.

Radar indicated potentially tornadic rotation. Pea-sized hail is also possible.

Communities in the warning area

Locations in or near the storms’ path include Kenton, Hartly, Sudlersville, Templeville, Church Hill, Millington and Barclay.

Residents should not wait to see or hear a tornado before taking protective action.

Take cover immediately

Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Stay away from windows.

People outdoors, inside mobile homes or traveling in vehicles should reach the nearest substantial shelter and protect themselves from flying debris.

The storms may damage roofs, windows, vehicles and mobile homes. Tree damage and power outages are also possible.
