Tornado Warning Issued for Dover, Little Creek and Leipsic, Delaware, Until 4:45 PM EDT

A tornado warning is in effect for Dover, Little Creek, Leipsic and surrounding communities in northeastern Kent County, Delaware, until 4:45 p.m. EDT on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
The National Weather Service issued the warning at 4:16 p.m. after radar detected rotation in a severe thunderstorm over Dover. The storm was moving east at approximately 25 mph.
A tornado has not been confirmed on the ground, but residents within the warning area should take shelter immediately.
Communities in the warning area
Locations covered by the tornado warning include Dover, Dover Speedway, Dover Base Housing, Little Creek, Leipsic, Kent Acres and Rodney Village.
Pea-sized hail may also occur with the storm.
Take shelter immediately
Residents should move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and remain away from windows.
Anyone outdoors, inside a mobile home or traveling in a vehicle should move to the closest substantial shelter and protect themselves from flying debris.
Flying debris could injure people without shelter. Damage to mobile homes, roofs, windows, vehicles and trees is also possible.
