Gonzales, Louisiana man arrested in connection with disappearance, murder of New Orleans man

NEW ORLEANS — A Gonzales man was arrested Thursday in connection with the disappearance and murder of a New Orleans man. According to the New Orleans Police Department, 68-year-old Alphonse Hogan Jr. was reported missing on Aug. 3 after he was last seen in his home along Lapeyrouse Street.

Over the course of the investigation, police ruled the disappearance involved foul play. Detectives eventually determined that Hogan was the victim of a homicide and reclassified this incident as such, developing 42-year-old Frederick Johnson as a suspect in Hogan's murder.
On Thursday, Johnson was arrested on second-degree murder charges in Gonzales with the assistance of Louisiana State Police, the FBI and the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office. Johnson is currently awaiting extradition to Orleans Parish on the murder charge.
