Deadly Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Imported Eggs: Latest Details

Whole genome sequencing linked the outbreak to a single strain, known as t5.9411. That strain is genetically related to a 2025 outbreak also associated with imported eggs. The outbreak has affected communities nationwide. Health officials confirmed 207 infections: Within England, London and Yorkshire and the Humber saw the heaviest impact.

Furthermore, the severity of this specific strain has placed significant pressure on healthcare services. Hospitals admitted 38% of those affected, and two individuals developed potentially life-threatening bloodstream infections. Interviews conducted by public health teams reveal a consistent pattern among those who fell ill.

Out of 114 interviewed cases, 95 individuals reported eating food prepared outside the home in the week before developing symptoms.
