Detectives are investigating the death of a 2-year-old child who was reported missing early Tuesday in rural Central Point, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division said its detectives are investigating the child’s death, with assistance from the Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit. The sheriff’s office said dispatch received a call at 4:30 a.m. for a missing child in the 9900 block of Blackwell Road.
Deputies and Oregon State Police troopers arrived and began searching. The child was found dead at 5:41 a.m., the sheriff’s office said. Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. The case remains open and ongoing, with detectives following additional leads, the sheriff’s office said.
The Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit includes detectives from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, Oregon State Police, Medford Police Department, Central Point Police Department, Ashland Police Department, and the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.
