Firefighters in Anne Arundel County responded Wednesday to an explosion that collapsed a home in Annapolis, killing one person and seriously injuring another.The incident happened in the 1100 block of Green Holly Drive in the Cape St. Claire area of Annapolis.

Crews arrived at the scene around 12:22 p.m. after receiving multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting an explosion.Anne Arundel County Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Larry Schultz said in a news conference that the explosion caused the upper floor of the home to collapse onto the lower level.

Initial reports indicated there may have been a fire following the explosion, but fire officials later said there was no fire.The department is investigating whether propane used inside the home may have contributed to the explosion.

Schultz said a vendor had been at the home about an hour before the blast to resupply propane.He said the priority for crews was to locate and secure the propane tank.
