A Newquay woman has been convicted as part of an 11-strong gang involved in a plot to smuggle an estimated £13.8 million worth of cannabis into the UK from Thailand.

Tasia Nelson, 22, of Cheviot Road, Newquay, was among a group of couriers found with a total of 460 kg of cannabis packed into 22 suitcases at Birmingham Airport in August 2024.

Border Force officers arrested the group after they arrived in the UK on the same flights from Thailand via Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. The month-long trial at Birmingham Crown Court concluded today, with Nelson and the other defendants convicted.
