Atlanta Police Officer DaVante Matthews Shot, Michael Gates Arrested

Atlanta Police Officer DaVante Matthews, 30, was shot in the arm Monday morning in southwest Atlanta, Georgia, while responding to a call involving an armed man. A 24-year-old suspect, Michael Gates, was taken into custody.
The shooting happened after officers were called to a home on Clark Howard Lane SW at about 8:41 a.m.
Officer Taken to Grady Memorial Hospital
Police said Gates opened fire as officers attempted to handle the situation, striking Matthews in the arm.
Other officers provided first aid and moved Matthews away from the scene. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
Michael Gates Taken Into Custody
Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said officers continued working toward a peaceful arrest following the shooting.
Gates was eventually taken into custody and transported to Atlanta Public Safety Headquarters.
Police said he is expected to face charges related to the shooting of the officer.
No other injuries were reported.
The investigation remains ongoing.
