Tornado Warning Issued for Free Union, Virginia With Golf Ball-Size Hail Possible

A Tornado Warning has been issued for Free Union, Virginia, as radar indicates rotation capable of producing a tornado.

The warning remains in effect until 5:30 p.m. EDT Friday.

The National Weather Service says the storm may also produce golf ball-size hail, creating an additional threat to people, vehicles and property.

Around 3,300 people are within the warned area.

Residents in and around Free Union should take shelter immediately, preferably in a basement or a small interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.

People outdoors, in vehicles or in mobile homes should move to substantial shelter as quickly as possible and protect themselves from flying debris.

Because the tornado threat is radar-indicated, conditions may deteriorate rapidly even if a tornado is not yet visible.
