Major Flooding Near Fortville, Indiana Approaches Record Level

Major flooding is occurring along Fall Creek near Fortville, Indiana, after periods of heavy rainfall pushed the waterway well above flood stage Friday morning.

Fall Creek Reaches Major Flood Stage

The creek was measured at 10.3 feet shortly before 5 a.m. EDT, compared with a flood stage of 8 feet. It reached a maximum of 10.7 feet during the previous 24 hours, approaching the highest level recorded since 1913.

Roads and Low-Lying Areas at Risk

Extensive flooding is affecting areas along Fall Creek in Madison County. Roads near the creek, including sections around the former State Road 238, could become flooded or impassable.

Water levels are expected to fall below flood stage later Friday, but dangerous conditions may continue near flooded roads and waterways.
