Iowa Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Possible Tornado and 70 MPH Winds Threaten Four Counties

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for parts of Audubon, Carroll, Greene and Guthrie counties in Iowa until 6:00 a.m. CDT, with a possible tornado and destructive winds posing a considerable damage threat.

Doppler radar indicated severe thunderstorms capable of producing wind gusts of up to 70 mph and hail smaller than 0.75 inches. The National Weather Service classified the storm’s damage threat as “considerable.”

Residents in the warned area should move immediately to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and remain away from windows. Mobile homes, vehicles and outdoor locations may not provide adequate protection from strong winds or a possible tornado.

The storm could damage roofs, siding and trees, while widespread power outages may occur. Drivers should avoid unnecessary travel until the warning expires and conditions improve.
